Upon Dreaming

(November 30th, 2008)

I know it's been a while, and I don't know how much you missed this, but I can tell you how much I missed the feeling I get when I listen to this mix.
Where is that dreamy state that just feels so good it can't be true. Let's not wake up on this one. Be taken away to soft focused moments, of stars, and of romance underwater, featuring Iron And Wine, Jose Gonzalez, Reefer, Papercuts, Husky Rescue, Radiohead, Fleet Foxes, Peter Bjorn & John, Ane Brun, Tobias Froberg, Shelley Duvall (of all things) Sea and Cake, Ron Sexsmith, Seabear, The Beatles, and Anathallo.

Music For Warmer Weather

(April 4th, 2010)

Keep it on the DOWNLOAD.

ROCKINGYOULIKEAHURRICANE

Are you ready to get your groove on? Are you ready to be transported, teleported, reported to another world (in a non world-music way)? Are you ready (c.angel.m.f. whisper)?

Well here's a mix for you. It's loud, downbeat, upbeat, and all over the place in a good way. It's rock and it's roll, but it's also lo-fi, and pop. You got Air, you got Bjork, you got Thom Yorke, you got Daft Punk, you also have Boards of Canada, 4Hero, Zero 7, Orchestre National de Jazz, Blank Blue, Toro y Bio, Washed Out, Bonobo, Lykke Li, Morning Benders, Yppah, Clientele, Mos Def, and Sebastien Tellier!

Does that sound good? Does that sound great?

I think you'll like this, even if you didn't like the other mixes, this one is one for just about anyone (without saying you are just like anyone), it's just a really easy and easy-listening mix.

Fade Away

(October 19, 2008)

Oldiebutgoldie.

There's a warm place on the forest floor where leaves fade away into the soil and become one with the earth again. This is the same place where we find ourselves young again with those early discoveries. In a world still left up to our imagination, let us do exactly that, imagine. Of possibilities and of infinite moments, let this be the beginning of something great (because there is still so much more to be had, there is still so much to have lost only to be gained). And once we lost it all, we only have each other.

Get lost with Nick Drake, Peter Gabriel, The Acorn, Donovan, Department of Eagles, Elliott Smith, Iron & Wine, Seabear, Beth Orton, Jim O'Rourke, King Crimson, Fleet Foxes, Patrick Watson, Ane Brun, Jon Brion, and Bon Iver.

Does Destroy Us

(March 29th, 2010)

I remember how easy it was to make these mixes. The process hasn't changed much, it still takes a while, but when you're making your mixes for someone real special, they just come so easily. Perhaps I'm not making any sense, and I'm losing your attention before I even get down to my description of this mixtape on hand.
I wanted to make something fresh, something full of fullness, fruitful, and bursting with juice of all sorts. I want you to feel relaxed without being too relax. I want to take you away with a sound, an atmosphere, a chorus, and words. I want this to be a coming-back-home, and something new but familiar. Most of all, I want you to smile.
I really like your smile.

"Waiting, waiting for you, does this destroy us both, to fail with you, to drop out with you..." -This Guy

I am really rude, for a long time I've been meaning on getting someone I know, and in this case, love so much, yes, I'll tell you who this person eventually, but let me continue to flower her with how much she is just so grand, great, and wonder...my dear friend, Brooke Manning (Loom, or otherwise), when you see her live, you just want to go up to her and say thank you.

And the rest!

The Antlers, Mark David Ashworth, Josh Rouse, The Acorn, Death In Vegas, jj, Coeur de Pirate, Morning Benders, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Ed Sharpe, Digger Darnes, Josephine Foster, Heather Woods Broderick...

How We Say Goodbye

(April 28th, 2009)

There's always something sad about saying goodbye to someone you really care for. But what about saying goodbye to someone you once was? What are the feelings mixed with that type of departure? To strip away, to put all the fragmented moments into a cigar box until the memory sweetens. I remember this was the easier way to say something that has always been hard to do. This sort of untilwemeetagain as you ride into the sunset and I ride into the darkness of the night.

Featuring High Llamas, St. Vincent, Joe Purdy, Elysian Fields, Elbow, Ruarri Joseph, Loose Fur, Broken Social Scene, Felice Brothers, Tara Jane O'Neil, Arborea, Magnet, and more if you can believe that.

repeat.

A Valley In The Heart

(October 18th, 2007)

With a crease and with a fold; a shift, and descent to a place we are traveling to. There is something exciting in the not-knowing factor to what lies ahead of us. For this mixtape, I remind a time of a lot of new things, and I also remember driving through Alberta to reach British Columbia, where there are grand golden fields broken by a strong wind. Just beyond are the Canadian Rockies, and the whole place turns into a timeless valley. This mix is great for a lot of things, and I want you to find a new experience with it.

With M. Ward, Do Make Say Think, Emiliana Torrini, Kings of Convenience, Beth Orton, Valley of the Giants, Sun Kil Moon, Smog, Jim O'Rourke, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and More.

Dealing with Dead Flowers

(January 3rd, 2009: I remember feeling really lonely)

And what happens when they aren't around, and all you have is what reminds? The things that drew you back to a time, and make you long for, are waiting, gone, or missing for an x-amount of time.

For a take-a-long, a journey seldomly taken, and taken alone. Of times of lonesomeness or for a mellow drive into the evening. For a day too bright for your tired eyes, and a smokey atmosphere you call your place of hiding. Let the tide roll back on this one. Let your body float, and as you wait for something to come washing back to shore.

Filled with Smog (Bill Callahan), Thief, my favorite Bon Iver song, Wilco, Doves, The Sea and The Cake, Kathryn Williams, Feist, Micah P. Hinson, Helio Sequence, Ned Collette (I tend to put them in every other mix, and only because I can't get enough of him, and I hope you can't either), Beth Orton, Jon Brion, and the rest I'll leave to your listening pleasure.

Grace Under Pressure

(Grace Under Pressure, October 12, 2007)

There's a definitive place for each of these mixes. With each one, a mark of movement through music and through time, and along the way there are certain people, key figures, who resonate with melody and rhythm.

Infinite Moments

d o w n l o a d: For relaxing times, make it*

There are moments that seem to last forever, whether it is being lost with good company, or time spent in a particular space. Your mind seems to escape from a familiar notion of time for a moment that feels, at the time, endless, or rather, infinite. I've had a few of these, and the word infinite moment is now just a memory, but the feeling still resonates today, as time carries on how it always does; the clicking of the seconds, the hour knowingly passing, and the day ending very much the same as yesterday. Bring me back to yesterday for a moment, bring me back with the sounds, and images of those moments that still last, in mind, in crater of the past, to fill me with wonder and hope. Infinite moments not because they have passed, but infinite moments because they will happen again, and again. (repeat)

*with DM Stith, Little Wings, Bon Iver, Odawas, Beach House, Sara Lov, King Crimson, Grizzly Bear, Josh Rouse, John Lennon, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marissa Nadler, Do Make Say Think, and Sigur Rós.

(Since You)

(July 3rd, 2009)

Download me, baby

This is part two of my "going to Hawai'i" mixtapes. This one is a real special one for me, it was the only album we ever had in the jeep for my two-day stay on the island of Moloka'i. It filled my head with what my eyes were thinking of the landscape, an adventurous and an ever-changing landscape. This is also the last (and tenth in a line) of a collection of mixtape I made for a dear friend.

Escape Artists

(March 10th, 2009)

Oh, you know you really wanna (download me)

I got into a conversation recently with a friend about Hawai'i, and it got me missing it real hard. So for this week and the next I'm posting mixtapes that I made while waiting to leave this slice of earth for another slice of earth I call h.o.m.e. Hopefully, these Hawai'ian getaway mixtapes give you something warm to put the mind while it sucks outside (and potentially, and unfortunately, in your place of residence). Hawai'i is waiting for you...

Away With Meredith

(Away With Meredith, July 2008)
Download me.

A couple of years ago I ran into a troublesome girl with no direction. She asked me for help, and so I helped, and after that she still needed help so I gave some more. Eventfully she was leaving this place, and asked once more for some more help, and well, this is exactly what that help sounds like.

For an adventure in a new place, full of new things and whatnots, fancies and failures, and otherwise, this is your mixtape.

There's Sea and Cake, Donna Regina, Ambulance Ltd., Devendra Banhart, Husky Rescue, Jon Brion, Beth Orton, Bon Iver, Andrew Bird, and a few more.

Autoplayer

Download!

You want it. I got it. You say you want something that will get your body going. You say what has been done is too mellow, you think I'm too mellow. Well, here's something that will get you on your feet, with stirring butts and shaking heads. Something fully loaded, 80+ minute mix filled with the likes of m83, Fila Brazillia, TV on the Radio, The Chemical Brothers, Aphex, and a bunch of others.

The essential concept of this album is to put this sucker in, and just let it autoplay as your dj for birthday parties, barmitzahs, weddings, and sporting events.

Nothing Is

(January 10th, 2009)

Download Mixtape?

Dear visitor, passerby, stumble-a-crosser, these mixtapes are dear to me, and hold a certain time together. Each mix ties me to a time in my life, and the people and sounds resurface upon each listening, for I have attached someone to each mix in dedication to them. This one, however is attached to no one in particular, and remains one of the hardest mixes to make for me, not in terms of skills or finding music, but just getting the right songs to create a certain atmosphere, and to give you a feeling like you're on some journey for the next 80 minutes.

Nothing Is features Beth Orton, Blue States, Boards of Canada, Get Well Soon, Goldfrapp, Ned Collette, Ohbijou, Red House Painters, Ruby Throat, Stereolab, Taken by Trees, just to name a few.

There isn't anything intense going on in life, so there are no intense emotions stirring around, all I have is my inspiration from distant memories, and a pocket full of new encounters.

Slow & Steady, Freddy

(September 6th, 2009)
Download the Mixtape!

You'll get Patrick Watson, Fruit Bats, Micah P. Hinson, Grizzly Bear, Felice Bros, and much more with this mixtape.

Perhaps I should use this opportunity to give you insight to each mixtape, this one marks a return; a return to place I left for six weeks, a place that was refreshed and busy with activity, a place far different from where I had been (my little escape I call maui). This mixtape marks a renewal and refreshment of spirits and of adventure into what felt like a new life.

I hope you enjoy it.

And in other news, the newest mixtape is 1/3 mixed, and I almost have the entire track list considered so just be patient with me, it will be well worth the wait.
