CE/DC

(November 10th, 2011)

I literally made this for my trip to NYC the next day and it didn't download to my ipod properly. Anyhoot, this is probably one of the best mixtapes I've made in a long long time and I still struggle to meet its perfect balance. I'm not even sure if I can be calling these things mixtapes anymore, mixes, and they're no longer under 80mins either too so that aren't even mix cd-r's.

To talk about the mixtape, it covers a span of music from 50 years back to today. I often find it easier to make mixes with music that is closer in year because of the vibe they portray as well as the sound aesthetic.

From the likes of The Herd, Cat Power, Jon Brion, Spiritualized, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, Emiliana Torrini, Brian Eno, Kings of Convenience, David Gilmour, Bill Wells, Wilco, Bridget St. John, Donovan, Hope Sandoval, AA Bondy, Ohbijou, and Bryan Ferry to name them all. If you haven't liked any of the other mixes here but you're still willing to give this all a try, check this one, buddy.

PEACE.

Time We Disappear

(September 25, 2011)

This is one of those mixes that go in all sorts of directions and I'm not sure it works but it serves a testament to what I was listening to back then. You got a little bit of folk, chillwave, pop, electronic from AA Bondy, Ensemble, Atlas Sound, Bonobo, TV on the Radio, Twin Sister, Radiohead, Luke Temple, Elbow just to name a few. It's a big bad boy (BBB) so watch out.

Through The Night (Softly)

(October 28th, 2011)

Here's a mixtape for anyone that likes jazz or wants to get into it more. Ranging from 60s Blue Jazz to Nu Jazz of the late 90s and early 00s. From the likes of George Benson, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, The Cinematic Orchestra, David Axelrod, Lonnie Liston Smith, Ray Barbee and Mattson 2, Gammas, Deodato, Charlie Parker, Bob James, The Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Herbie Hancock, Orchestre National De Jazz, Skalpel, Pharaoh Sanders, and Dave Brubeck Quartet.

This is a massive mixtape, especially since I'm not longer thinking these will ever be put on to a cd-r I've been making them longer than 80mins. Enjoy.

Drop Trou

(September 4th, 2011)

A mix that implies exactly that, drop it, rip them draws off now, oh, wait, before you do that, stumble with your pants half off over to your computer, your mp3 player, your phone, whatever you got plugged into a set of speakers, and press play (after locating this mix). Let the moment take you, let these sounds be the soundtrack to whatever you're doing with whoever you're doing.

Music by Atlas Sound, Daft Punk, Bill Wells, Bibio, Talk Talk, Jazzanova, Doves, DJ Shadow, Bent, DJ Krush, Cinematic Orchestra, Royksopp, and much mo' mo' moan.

Say, why don't you, "Drop Trou", to this.

Drifters

(August 11th, 2011)

Yes, drift is right, drift is the way. Expect nothing alarming, nothing to make you run faster, but expect something to help you sleep, relax, chill, whether on an airplane flying to some island in the middle of the pacific or a subway train going to work, this mix will help you settle down and take a breather. I haven't made a mix like this, usually weeding in ambient tracks here and there, using them as hidden well before bringing things back up to the lively surface. No, this puppy is a solid ambient vacation, taking some of my favorite in the genre and throwing a time-less vessel of over eighty minutes into the mix. Dig in.

Dark Dark Crazy

(July 26, 2011)

No problem right now with making mixtapes, in fact, check back soon to check out some more. This is full of good stuff, I think you'll it, and the next couple.
From what I remember it starts off with a bang, it holds this pace for a while, then climaxes, and the mix goes into a mellow slow-going pace for the second half. This mix is longer than a cd-r, if you have been burning them for a roadtrip, better bring the ipod on this one. And the next for that matter.

Music For Warmer Weather V2

(April 15th, 2011)

Yet another. But not just another. Here's the second installment of an on-going series of mixtapes that come out for the Spring season of mixtape goers.

As same as last year (well, not entirely the same), this mix will take you on a journey that doesn't just occupy one genre or theme, but travels to a series of islands of sound, and like the title entices, this is music for warmer weather. So hopefully this keeps you warm (or warmer) on those cool spring nights with the sounds of Bonobo, Toro Y Moi, Junip, Pandit, Yellowbirds, The High Llamas, Laura Veirs, Taken by Trees, Department of Eagles, Memoryhouse, Mr. Scruff, Akron/Family, Secret Cities, The Bees, Bill Callahan, Quantic & His Combo, and more! Yes, more!

Enjoy the warmer weather.

Ellipsis

(February 17th, 2011)

I want you to close your eyes, forget about the snow outside, forget how miserable or delightful it is outside, imagine through your windows is not a city, a town, and people walking around with too many clothes on, but that there is somewhere warm, perhaps blazing, with wavy air from the heat-heat-heat. This isn't music for warmer weather part two, this is for the last stretch of winter, when we are mad as hell and we are not going to take it anymore. Filled with sounds that can only exist on those moon-filled summer evenings, songs of summertime traveling, and places that do not exist in the real world. Let your mind trip, trip, trip.

Island of Rejects

(July 25th, 2010)

If you're still here, if you're still with us, if you're ready and able, and you know what you want and what you want is more, then well, friend, you're in for a treat. Don't worry baby (dontworrrryyyyybaaaaby)

It's hot out, and it's far enough into summer we can feel bruised, beaten, but still feeling that freeing feeling of summer, so you can deal with whatever is going on. I want this to make you feel like running away, if only for the duration of a cd-r. I want you to explore your favorite parts of where you live with someone special, and if there's no special, then take the most specialist person you know, yourself.

Find that summer, and grab it real hard, and pull it down into the depths and watch the last of it bubble up. Yes, I'm talking all the way in the only way I know how to say going all the way, ballsdeep.

Enjoy the sounds of Beach House, Atlas Sound, Brightblack Morning Light, Alasdair Roberts, Crayon Fields, Washed Out, Sandro Perri, Pram, Josephine Foster, Picastro, Greg Weeks, Twin Sister, Tame Impala, Jose Gonzales, Ragnarok, and not to mention, The Beach Boys (and the song that IS the song of summer).

Soundtrack to Summer v3

(June 7th, 2010)

With furious legs, I've been a part of some vicious dance-offs, where bystanders lose a drink or two, where slow-pokes get slammed aside, and where the song never seems to end as two wilder than wicky-wicky-wild-wild-ers decide to fight with their legs, their arms, their own dance, their dance.
To a bear who sings like grace, and fools a crowd of rowdies into harmony and play. Singing nah-nah-naaah-nah-na-naah. All the ladies, All the men, NOW ALL'N TOGETHER NOW.
For a bird in my hand, fallen from her tree. I wished I could teach you how to fly again. I wish I could take your sadness away.
THIS, this summer, this warm weather, this smile on your face, this grim on mine, you know I know what's up, and I know you know what's going on. It. is. all. around. us. now. This feeling we call summer. Now here's a soundtrack.

(w/Clientele, Morning Benders, Tame Impala, Phosphorescent (keep in mind I can't spell, so you'll have to change your track from phospherous to phosphorescent), Broken Social Scene, Twin Sister, Ed Sharpe, Adele Diane, Avi Buffalo, Vetiver, A.A. Bondy, The National, Midlake)

A Fourth of Faye

(December 7th, 2008)

(first of all, i would like to apologize for being absent for those still frequenting these grounds)

I remember a cold, a brisky cold, and bone-chilling day, and I remember feeling absolutely happy, crazy, and profoundly free. I was floating in the world I had forgotten. I was in a place that was something pure, angelic, and full of bliss. Maybe that won't come across in this mix, maybe it is a cold cut with moments of soft and warm feelings. And maybe this mix is too cold for such hot weather we've been having. But this mix is dear, it is special, and it needs to be out here for all of you to hear. Please, part-take.

The Soundtrack to Summer

(August 2007)

While I work on the newest mixtape (there's now four in the works) I wanted to throw this one into the mix. The Soundtrack to Summer is a collection of the summer of 07' for me, from a month in Hawai'i, running/biking in the rain, rooftop bbq's, fake prom, breakdancing, and everything else in-between. I can assure you this mix is for you, with Doves, Radio Dept., Stereolab, Broken Social Scene, Aimee Mann, Bill Callahan, Josh Rouse, Weezer, Beth Orton, Azure Ray, Radiohead, Sun Kil Moon, Ambulance LTD., Red Hot Chili Peppers, National, and more.

Don't let the soft intro get you thinking you're in for a mellow drive here.
