Music For Warmer Weather V2

(April 15th, 2011)

Yet another. But not just another. Here's the second installment of an on-going series of mixtapes that come out for the Spring season of mixtape goers.

As same as last year (well, not entirely the same), this mix will take you on a journey that doesn't just occupy one genre or theme, but travels to a series of islands of sound, and like the title entices, this is music for warmer weather. So hopefully this keeps you warm (or warmer) on those cool spring nights with the sounds of Bonobo, Toro Y Moi, Junip, Pandit, Yellowbirds, The High Llamas, Laura Veirs, Taken by Trees, Department of Eagles, Memoryhouse, Mr. Scruff, Akron/Family, Secret Cities, The Bees, Bill Callahan, Quantic & His Combo, and more! Yes, more!

Enjoy the warmer weather.

Ellipsis

(February 17th, 2011)

I want you to close your eyes, forget about the snow outside, forget how miserable or delightful it is outside, imagine through your windows is not a city, a town, and people walking around with too many clothes on, but that there is somewhere warm, perhaps blazing, with wavy air from the heat-heat-heat. This isn't music for warmer weather part two, this is for the last stretch of winter, when we are mad as hell and we are not going to take it anymore. Filled with sounds that can only exist on those moon-filled summer evenings, songs of summertime traveling, and places that do not exist in the real world. Let your mind trip, trip, trip.

Island of Rejects

(July 25th, 2010)

If you're still here, if you're still with us, if you're ready and able, and you know what you want and what you want is more, then well, friend, you're in for a treat. Don't worry baby (dontworrrryyyyybaaaaby)

It's hot out, and it's far enough into summer we can feel bruised, beaten, but still feeling that freeing feeling of summer, so you can deal with whatever is going on. I want this to make you feel like running away, if only for the duration of a cd-r. I want you to explore your favorite parts of where you live with someone special, and if there's no special, then take the most specialist person you know, yourself.

Find that summer, and grab it real hard, and pull it down into the depths and watch the last of it bubble up. Yes, I'm talking all the way in the only way I know how to say going all the way, ballsdeep.

Enjoy the sounds of Beach House, Atlas Sound, Brightblack Morning Light, Alasdair Roberts, Crayon Fields, Washed Out, Sandro Perri, Pram, Josephine Foster, Picastro, Greg Weeks, Twin Sister, Tame Impala, Jose Gonzales, Ragnarok, and not to mention, The Beach Boys (and the song that IS the song of summer).

Soundtrack to Summer v3

(June 7th, 2010)

With furious legs, I've been a part of some vicious dance-offs, where bystanders lose a drink or two, where slow-pokes get slammed aside, and where the song never seems to end as two wilder than wicky-wicky-wild-wild-ers decide to fight with their legs, their arms, their own dance, their dance.
To a bear who sings like grace, and fools a crowd of rowdies into harmony and play. Singing nah-nah-naaah-nah-na-naah. All the ladies, All the men, NOW ALL'N TOGETHER NOW.
For a bird in my hand, fallen from her tree. I wished I could teach you how to fly again. I wish I could take your sadness away.
THIS, this summer, this warm weather, this smile on your face, this grim on mine, you know I know what's up, and I know you know what's going on. It. is. all. around. us. now. This feeling we call summer. Now here's a soundtrack.

(w/Clientele, Morning Benders, Tame Impala, Phosphorescent (keep in mind I can't spell, so you'll have to change your track from phospherous to phosphorescent), Broken Social Scene, Twin Sister, Ed Sharpe, Adele Diane, Avi Buffalo, Vetiver, A.A. Bondy, The National, Midlake)

A Fourth of Faye

(December 7th, 2008)

(first of all, i would like to apologize for being absent for those still frequenting these grounds)

I remember a cold, a brisky cold, and bone-chilling day, and I remember feeling absolutely happy, crazy, and profoundly free. I was floating in the world I had forgotten. I was in a place that was something pure, angelic, and full of bliss. Maybe that won't come across in this mix, maybe it is a cold cut with moments of soft and warm feelings. And maybe this mix is too cold for such hot weather we've been having. But this mix is dear, it is special, and it needs to be out here for all of you to hear. Please, part-take.

The Soundtrack to Summer

(August 2007)

While I work on the newest mixtape (there's now four in the works) I wanted to throw this one into the mix. The Soundtrack to Summer is a collection of the summer of 07' for me, from a month in Hawai'i, running/biking in the rain, rooftop bbq's, fake prom, breakdancing, and everything else in-between. I can assure you this mix is for you, with Doves, Radio Dept., Stereolab, Broken Social Scene, Aimee Mann, Bill Callahan, Josh Rouse, Weezer, Beth Orton, Azure Ray, Radiohead, Sun Kil Moon, Ambulance LTD., Red Hot Chili Peppers, National, and more.

Don't let the soft intro get you thinking you're in for a mellow drive here.

Upon Dreaming

(November 30th, 2008)

I know it's been a while, and I don't know how much you missed this, but I can tell you how much I missed the feeling I get when I listen to this mix.
Where is that dreamy state that just feels so good it can't be true. Let's not wake up on this one. Be taken away to soft focused moments, of stars, and of romance underwater, featuring Iron And Wine, Jose Gonzalez, Reefer, Papercuts, Husky Rescue, Radiohead, Fleet Foxes, Peter Bjorn & John, Ane Brun, Tobias Froberg, Shelley Duvall (of all things) Sea and Cake, Ron Sexsmith, Seabear, The Beatles, and Anathallo.

Music For Warmer Weather

(April 4th, 2010)

Keep it on the DOWNLOAD.

ROCKINGYOULIKEAHURRICANE

Are you ready to get your groove on? Are you ready to be transported, teleported, reported to another world (in a non world-music way)? Are you ready (c.angel.m.f. whisper)?

Well here's a mix for you. It's loud, downbeat, upbeat, and all over the place in a good way. It's rock and it's roll, but it's also lo-fi, and pop. You got Air, you got Bjork, you got Thom Yorke, you got Daft Punk, you also have Boards of Canada, 4Hero, Zero 7, Orchestre National de Jazz, Blank Blue, Toro y Bio, Washed Out, Bonobo, Lykke Li, Morning Benders, Yppah, Clientele, Mos Def, and Sebastien Tellier!

Does that sound good? Does that sound great?

I think you'll like this, even if you didn't like the other mixes, this one is one for just about anyone (without saying you are just like anyone), it's just a really easy and easy-listening mix.

Fade Away

(October 19, 2008)

Oldiebutgoldie.

There's a warm place on the forest floor where leaves fade away into the soil and become one with the earth again. This is the same place where we find ourselves young again with those early discoveries. In a world still left up to our imagination, let us do exactly that, imagine. Of possibilities and of infinite moments, let this be the beginning of something great (because there is still so much more to be had, there is still so much to have lost only to be gained). And once we lost it all, we only have each other.

Get lost with Nick Drake, Peter Gabriel, The Acorn, Donovan, Department of Eagles, Elliott Smith, Iron & Wine, Seabear, Beth Orton, Jim O'Rourke, King Crimson, Fleet Foxes, Patrick Watson, Ane Brun, Jon Brion, and Bon Iver.

Does Destroy Us

(March 29th, 2010)

I remember how easy it was to make these mixes. The process hasn't changed much, it still takes a while, but when you're making your mixes for someone real special, they just come so easily. Perhaps I'm not making any sense, and I'm losing your attention before I even get down to my description of this mixtape on hand.
I wanted to make something fresh, something full of fullness, fruitful, and bursting with juice of all sorts. I want you to feel relaxed without being too relax. I want to take you away with a sound, an atmosphere, a chorus, and words. I want this to be a coming-back-home, and something new but familiar. Most of all, I want you to smile.
I really like your smile.

"Waiting, waiting for you, does this destroy us both, to fail with you, to drop out with you..." -This Guy

I am really rude, for a long time I've been meaning on getting someone I know, and in this case, love so much, yes, I'll tell you who this person eventually, but let me continue to flower her with how much she is just so grand, great, and wonder...my dear friend, Brooke Manning (Loom, or otherwise), when you see her live, you just want to go up to her and say thank you.

And the rest!

The Antlers, Mark David Ashworth, Josh Rouse, The Acorn, Death In Vegas, jj, Coeur de Pirate, Morning Benders, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Ed Sharpe, Digger Darnes, Josephine Foster, Heather Woods Broderick...

How We Say Goodbye

(April 28th, 2009)

There's always something sad about saying goodbye to someone you really care for. But what about saying goodbye to someone you once was? What are the feelings mixed with that type of departure? To strip away, to put all the fragmented moments into a cigar box until the memory sweetens. I remember this was the easier way to say something that has always been hard to do. This sort of untilwemeetagain as you ride into the sunset and I ride into the darkness of the night.

Featuring High Llamas, St. Vincent, Joe Purdy, Elysian Fields, Elbow, Ruarri Joseph, Loose Fur, Broken Social Scene, Felice Brothers, Tara Jane O'Neil, Arborea, Magnet, and more if you can believe that.

repeat.

A Valley In The Heart

(October 18th, 2007)

With a crease and with a fold; a shift, and descent to a place we are traveling to. There is something exciting in the not-knowing factor to what lies ahead of us. For this mixtape, I remind a time of a lot of new things, and I also remember driving through Alberta to reach British Columbia, where there are grand golden fields broken by a strong wind. Just beyond are the Canadian Rockies, and the whole place turns into a timeless valley. This mix is great for a lot of things, and I want you to find a new experience with it.

With M. Ward, Do Make Say Think, Emiliana Torrini, Kings of Convenience, Beth Orton, Valley of the Giants, Sun Kil Moon, Smog, Jim O'Rourke, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, and More.

Dealing with Dead Flowers

(January 3rd, 2009: I remember feeling really lonely)

And what happens when they aren't around, and all you have is what reminds? The things that drew you back to a time, and make you long for, are waiting, gone, or missing for an x-amount of time.

For a take-a-long, a journey seldomly taken, and taken alone. Of times of lonesomeness or for a mellow drive into the evening. For a day too bright for your tired eyes, and a smokey atmosphere you call your place of hiding. Let the tide roll back on this one. Let your body float, and as you wait for something to come washing back to shore.

Filled with Smog (Bill Callahan), Thief, my favorite Bon Iver song, Wilco, Doves, The Sea and The Cake, Kathryn Williams, Feist, Micah P. Hinson, Helio Sequence, Ned Collette (I tend to put them in every other mix, and only because I can't get enough of him, and I hope you can't either), Beth Orton, Jon Brion, and the rest I'll leave to your listening pleasure.
